Daddy took a few days off work in August and we decided to head down to Williamsburg, VA for a little vacation. Each year military families can get free tickets for one day of admission to any of the Busch Garden theme parks, so we decided to brave our first official theme park with the kids.
Our friends the Andersons also happened to be in Williamsburg at the same time so we all joined up for a crazy day of fun!
We started our day in the area set aside for the little kids and themed after Sesame Street. Riley was not interested in riding with everyone else, so we watched from the sidelines.
We did find a great climbing area also in the Sesame area where Riley wanted to run around.
And run some more...she would have spent all day here if we let her.
Parker and Daddy braved the Elmo bouncing ride - Parker had already decided that this theme park thing was pretty cool.
They even had a splash park area. The kids took off their shoes and ran around. Good thing it was a warm summer day and drying off wasn't a problem.
Next we found the roller coaster in Sesame Land. It was actually a pretty big ride. All the boys went along with Rich, Amanda, and Ben.
At first Brady was not too sure that he wanted to go on the roller coaster. It was pretty fast.
Richie on the other hand was pumped up about it.
Parker loved the first ride so much he convinced the others to run around and get in line again for another ride.
While everyone else was on the roller coaster Riley and I had some snacks - oh and Mommy had some adult beverage. It is BUSCH gardens after all.
Elmo and Big Bird were hanging out and available for pictures. As much as Riley likes Elmo, she had no interest in getting close enough to take a picture. She just hung on to Mommy and waved. "Hi Elmo" "Bye Bye Elmo"
After the roller coaster Richie and Brady wanted to go on the Elmo bouncing ride with Parker before we adventured into the rest of the park.
Riley finally found a ride that was her speed - little Clydesdale horses that go in a circle like a Merry Go Round. We were waiting for a train to take us to another area of the park and the kids kept riding the ride over and over until the train came.
Riding Busch Gardens version of tea cups (Turkish Delight).
The boys loved it. We were spinning pretty fast.
While we were on the tea cups Daddy and Riley went on a smaller "coaster" ride. She loved it. They went together 3 times and then she wanted to go with me. We did it about 3 times also!
The boys loved the water rides. The daddies took the older boys on Busch Gardens version of Splash Mountain (Escape from Pompeii) - which at the end of the day Parker said had been his favorite. Then they went on the Roman Rapids raft ride. The mommies, Brady and Riley watched from the side of the "river". There were water cannons along the "river" that we could use to shoot the people floating by on the rafts. We nailed the boys pretty well. And at the end of the ride Daddy had steered the raft so Parker went right under a waterfall.
The daddies got their fair share of water as well.
We finished the day at Land of the Dragons were there were a lot of smaller rides that the kids could go on without the parents. Just like earlier in the day, they did most of the rides at least 4 or 5 times. While they bounced between rides the daddies went for a ride on one of the "giant" coasters. At the end of the day we had 4 exhausted kids and 4 almost equally exhausted parents! But, it was definitely a success and we will make the trek down again next year!
