ZOO!

Mommy's wonderful friend Ashley in Oklahoma gave Mommy, Daddy, and Parker a membership to the Smithsonian Zoo for a parting gift. The zoo is free, but the membership gives us free parking (saving $22 every time we go!) and so we can go anytime we want for a few hours to enjoy the animals and good weather. Our first visit definitely didn't disappoint. Mommy has been to lots of zoos, but this might be the best ever!

Our first stop was to the lions. There was one male and three female lions. We were early in the morning so the animals were very active. Have you ever really witnessed a male lion roar? We hadn't, but this lion didn't let us down!

Parker loves turtles. And this one (a snake-neck turtle) seemed equally interested in him! What do turtles say? "Snap! Snap!"

At the Smithsonian Zoo the Orangutans have the run of the zoo! Bonnie, the female oldest Orangutan is often found touring the zoo high above on the "ropes" suspended high in the air. They are basically allowed to go wherever they want in the zoo. I have never seen anything like it!

Watch out for Bonnie though! Rumor has it that if she doesn't think you are paying attention to her she will spit on you from above!

Parker LOVES elephants! They are definitely his favorite animal. Whenever we talk about the zoo he talks about the elephants. The elephants at the Smithsonian Zoo are having a new habitat built for them, but you can still visit them in their current home.

Parker pays close attention to the elephants so he doesn't miss a thing!
We had a really great day at the zoo and I can tell this will be a regular outing for the family! It is only about 15 minutes from the house and such a great place!

New Park!

In addition to the awesome swingset in our new backyard, Parker has been lucky and we moved to a house with another great park close by! This one is about 4 blocks away and he loves it already!

We call it "fire park" because of the metal Fire Truck to climb on with a slide in the back.

Mommy likes this see-saw because it doesn't require another person on the other end for Parker to bounce!
I see many future days spent at this park!

Block Puzzle

Ma Pat found this great block puzzle for Parker!

If you rearrange and rotate the blocks you can make different farm animals.

Parker hasn't mastered the art of forming a picture, but he is a master at stacking the blocks!

Road Trip Buddy

We took 5 days of driving to get from Oklahoma to Maryland. We didn't want really long days in the car, and it worked out really well. Parker spent a lot of time taking advantage of car naps!

And yes, there was snoring...

Luckily Mommy had the Hunger Games book on tape to listen to on the drive!

Helmet

Now that Parker is a wild-man we decided to go "safety first" and get him a bike helmet!

He loves his helmet and even wears it around the house when he is feeling extra silly!

Push-ups

We could only get a very short video of Parker working out with Daddy, but it was pretty hilarious!

Daddy's Play Date

Parker's Daddy couldn't travel through Kentucky without a stop at the Maker's Mark Distillery - it is Daddy's favorite bourbon after all!

Parker was too distracted by the bubbles in the mash barrels to pose for a photo.

It grossed me out a bit but you are actually allowed to put your finger in the different mash barrels to taste the mash during its various stages - Daddy and Parker did it - I did not.

Checking out the barrels of bourbon in the warehouse - notice the cool new cup from the Railway Museum!

While Daddy tasted bourbon, Parker tasted Nerds!

Daddy even dipped his own Whiskey Bottle! When I asked whether that meant the bottle would stay unopened I was informed that was not the case...Great field trip for Daddy!

A new photo from my phone - Parker sticking his hand in the beer!
