Although we put up most of our other Christmas decorations right after Thanksgiving, we waited until mid-December to go buy our tree. Riley made sure to be dressed for the occasion.
We have been very fortunate in the past two years to have been on a military post that recieved trees from the Trees for Troops program, and that is where we had found our tree. But now that we are living in Silver Spring we needed to go to the tree lots.
Luckily the trees here are gorgeous. It took us a little while to find the perfect tree. We knew we didn't have a lot of clearance in the basement, so it wasn't going to be a monster, but it needed to be full and have a nice top. We were able to find a nice fir tree, which reminded both Ben and I of the trees we had when we were growing up. Ah, the price of nostalgia is only $25 extra...After loading up the tree we headed to a new mexican restaurant for lunch.
Parker was a great boy all through the adventure so he got ice cream at lunch - and made sure to give dad the "grumpy face" if he tried to steal some! While Parker napped Mommy put the lights on the tree.
Then as soon as he woke up he got to help with the ornaments.
Daddy got in on the fun too.
Earlier in the week Parker had gone with me and Riley to Hallmark and picked out a train ornament for the tree. I wrapped it for him and he was able to unwrap it to hang it on our tree. He spent a lot of time "playing" with the ornament, it didn't spend much time on the tree.
Showing off the finished tree and his snowman headband...so silly!
Don't worry Riley, next year you can help too...
